It’s been quiet over here for some time, but not because I haven’t been writing. In fact, I have some exciting news to share. I have been working on a project I’m pretty passionate about. It involves the life and thought of Hannah More, the English evangelical author, playwright, and activist. In her day she was on of the leading social reformers in England, and one of the foremost figures in the abolition of the slave trade. She was a close friend and collaborator with William Wilberforce, and enjoyed the admiration and esteem of John Newton, Samuel Johnson, Edmund Burke, and other prominent figures. She was a household name in Georgian England. But you may not have even heard of her, and you probably don’t know anything of her writings on biblical womanhood, which is a shame, because she was on to something. Which is why in this project I’m seeking to recover her vision for womanhood and draw lessons from her writing for twenty-first century Christians. Among many topics, I explore her perspectives on sexual difference, education, and vocation. I aiming to apply her principles to our age making a larger argument regarding the diverging paths of thought between Hannah and her proto-feminist contemporaries. With Hannah’s help I hope to promote a healthy and biblical path forward for women today.

This is why I’m thrilled to announce I’ve been contracted with Courier Publishing to write this book. I’ll be sharing about the writing process and (more excitingly) documenting my research trip to England where I’ll be walking the paths Hannah walked, holding the very pages she wrote, and writing from her bedroom in Wrington.
